“La sera sper il lag” (The evening over the lake (Laax)) was written by Gion Balzer Casanova (*1938), a former school teacher from Laax, Switzerland. The song is based on a text by the local poet Flurin Camathias (*1871-†1946). In November 2009, Gion Balzer Casanova was also awarded a recognition prize by the canton of Graubünden for his decades of work as an animator of musical life in the Surselva, in particular as a composer, conductor and promoter of singing talent. Today, the song “La sera sper il lag” is known and loved in choral and brass music circles far beyond the borders of Switzerland.
