about the piece

description

"Gli Elementi" (The Elements) - This work is inspired by the four main elements of nature, namely earth, water, air and fire.

"La terra" (the earth) is a tribute to Mother Earth, who gives life to all the flora and fauna on our planet. The music has a distinct baroque touch and can also be seen as a tribute to the great baroque composers such as JS Bach, A. Vivaldi, GF Handel or G.Ph. Telemann, to name just a few. All these composers provided the "soil" for the growth and prosperity of our modern music world as we know it today.

"L'acqua" (Water) is inspired by the music of Frédéric Chopin (1831-1849). I think his music has a beautiful movement and playfulness that is reminiscent of a flowing stream.

"L'aria" (air) has the freshness of an early morning walk on a beautiful spring day. What better way to describe this cheerful scene musically than with a dash of classical music! I can already see "Papa Haydn" winking and smiling as he passes us on our walk.

"Il fuoco" (the fire) is written in the style of a "fire dance" - a ritual dance around a blazing fire. This music was inspired by the Spanish composer Manuel De Falla (1876-1946) and his world-famous "Ritual Fire Dance" from the ballet "El amor brujo".

This solo piece is available as a PDF download. The work is also included in the collection "3 Pieces for Euphonium" .
