Description
This work is based on a Bernese song from the 17th century. It describes the story of Hans Haslibacher from Haslibach, in the municipality of Sumiswald (Switzerland), of whom J. Zehnder reports in his manuscript church history: “In 1571, on October 20, a famous old teacher of the Anabaptists was finally put to the sword in Bern after he had broken his oath and vows many times, remained obstinate and persistent in his error, and all persuasion and admonition was in vain”.
